What is a VoIP phone?
A VoIP phone (Voice over Internet Protocol phone) is a communication device that allows users to make voice calls using an internet connection rather than a traditional analog phone line. Instead of using the public switched telephone network (PSTN), VoIP phones convert voice into digital signals, transmit them over the internet, and then convert them back into sound at the receiving end.
VoIP technology is widely used in businesses for unified communications, call centers, and even residential phone services due to its cost-efficiency and scalability.
It is nothing to do with being soft and squishy - a 'softphone' is a phone, but a software version. Instead of a physical desk phone, you make and recieve calls using an app installed on your computer, tablet, or mobile.
